gan project installation / tokyo designers block 2003 Collaboration with tahee kim, sona kwak. As the production system has shifted from mass-production to customer-oriented production, mass-customization has become a key system to our present society. This is due to the fact that mass-production is able to give the product only a fixed and unconditional context, while customers want products to represent each person¡¯s own being and character. In order to solve this problem we, as designers, suggest in this project a new lifestyle where the barriers between products, media, or even the barrier between designer and user are destroyed and re-ordered through a new interpretation of their original context. This new lifestyle can also contribute to the reorganization of social classes, of the giver and the taker, and of the methods of expression : this finally aims to the stabilization of a society where each individual¡¯s human nature is respected. "gan" is the keyword of our project which means ¡°the in-between space of one subject from another¡± : in our ¡°gan¡± space, we are expressing harmony and reconciliation of two opposite meanings. |
